Travel! It's Good For You!!!

Vacation + Relaxation = Happy Campers

Who doesn’t enjoy a great vacation? You can’t wait for it to begin and wish it would never end…You return to your everyday routine feeling relaxed and happier…You bond with your spouse and family while away, growing closer…you return to work with a more motivated outlook…And research has proven these “feelings” to be truths.

In research recently released by the Travel Industry Association, travel has been proven to aid in wellness, strengthen relationships, and boost creativity – all good reasons to start planning your next adventure.

In addition, RV trips add benefits like less stress because you are in control of your itinerary and timetables – easy to pick up and go without having to pack luggage or limit the things you can and can’t take in your luggage – ability to follow special diets or eat your favorite foods with your own kitchen along – no worries about having to leave any family members behind because even four-legged companions love to RV.

Health And Wellness

An annual vacation can cut a person’s risk of heart attack by 50 percent.

Travelers rate their overall health one full point higher (on a scale of 1 to 5) while on vacation. They also get three times more deep sleep after their vacation.

Relationships

More than half of employed Americans say they come back feeling reconnected with their family after vacation (53%).

At least four out of ten travelers feel more romantic on vacation (42%), and nearly one-third admit to making love more often on vacation (31%).

Career Success/Productivity

Travelers experience a 25% increase in performance on vigilance tests after returning from vacation – travelers 45 or older show a 50% increase in performance.

There's a good chance the benefits of vacation will go straight to the bottom line. According to a study by American Express, more than a third of small-business owners say their best ideas – the ones that lead to business growth – come not at work, but during their downtime.

An inability to take a break can lead to stress, burnout, and a greater likelihood of feeling betrayed and angry when things do not go well at work.

Creativity

Travel can be fertile ground for discovering creative ideas for work or even a new business, according to a recent New York Times story. The reason travel spurs inspiration is the stimulus, said Jeannine McGlade, co-author of “Stimulated! Habits to Spark Your Creative Genius at Work.” “When you’re in a new environment, you have what we call ‘eyes wide open. It’s not the ‘same old, same old’ where you tend to get into a rut and aren’t alert to having a ‘spark moment.’ Things are different and fresh during travel. You’re seeing things from a different perspective and you’re really paying attention."

So, What Will You Discover on your next RV adventure?...

“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.”

--St. Augustine

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness…Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”

--Mark Twain

The Benefits of Travel Compression Socks

By Mark David Peters

If you travel a lot, or stay stationary for long periods during the day, then you may be at risk of developing a blood clot, which if left untreated, could prove to be fatal.

Fortunately there is a very effective and inexpensive way of significantly reducing the risk of developing a blood clot (which is also known as deep vein thrombosis) and that is by wearing travel compression socks.

Travel compression socks are designed to be worn by individuals who spend long periods sitting or standing still, for example, airline passengers or office workers. They are just like normal socks except that they provide a graduated compression from the ankle to just below the knee.

This pressure is greatest at the ankle and gradually weakens up the leg. The effect of this serves to help blood flow return back to the heart, thereby reducing the risk of blood pooling in the feet and developing into a clot.

Apart from reducing the risk of developing a blood clot, compression socks can also help to prevent tired or achy legs that can be caused by a lack of inactivity in people who are required to sit or stand for long periods.

One study published in 2001 showed just how effective compression socks can be. The study compared two groups of airline passengers, one wearing regular socks and the other wearing compression socks. The study found no cases of deep vein thrombosis in the later group, however 10% of the group wearing regular socks developed deep vein thrombosis.

Although this is just one study, it does give an indication as to just how useful compression socks can be. And since they are such an inexpensive item of clothing, most health care practitioners recommend that adults aged over 40 use them, especially when they are traveling via air.

However they are not recommended for people younger than 40, as they may restrict blood flow on younger legs and increase the risk of developing a blood clot.
